Pokemon Platinum is a remake version of Diamond and Pearl, similar to Emerald being a remake of Ruby and Sapphire, Crystal of Gold and Silver, and Yellow of Red and Blue. As with those remakes, Platinum is expected to have many new features and tweaks, in addition to an altered storyline. Giratina's new Origin Form, which premieres in
Giratina and the Bouquet from the Icy Sky, Shaymin, will be the game's mascot.
Release Dates
- Japan: Fall, 2008
- America: Spring, 2009
Confirmed Facts
- Giratina is catchable in the game in its Origin Form at level 47 (the same level Dialga and Palkia are encountered at in Diamond and Pearl).
- The Pokemon Trainer's outfit is now colored blue.
- Giratina's Origin Form's ability may be new, since it is listed as "???" in CoroCoro (if it were a known ability, it would probably be listed).
- The HP bar, at least when you battle Giratina, has been redesigned.
Unconfirmed Information
- Platinum will feature a "Battle Island," similar to Emerald's Battle Frontier.
- The "Underground," which in Diamond and Pearl was only accessible via DS communication, is now Wi-Fi enabled so you can play your friends over the internet.
- Platinum will feature a new form of Shaymin (which may be part-Ice type) and Regigigas (which may have Levitate as its ability).
- Volkner, the Gym Leader of Sunyshore City, is no longer a Gym Leader.
A new scan of Famitsu Magazine has been released, showing better-quality screenshots of
Pokemon Platinum compared to yesterday's CoroCoro scans. It also reveals a larger picture of the game's box art. Click the thumbnails below for larger images. I cut out Shaymin from the scan myself and made it transparent, and you are free to use it wherever you want as long as you provide a link back to this website.
As for new information, the magazine describes that when Shaymin is in
Pokemon Platinum, it stays in its Sky Forme. When in
Diamond and
Pearl, it is in its regular Land Forme. Thus, it is like Deoxys between the different GBA games. Other than this mentioned piece of information, nothing else is explicitly revealed about the game. However, we can infer from the castle-like building in the screenshot below that there will be new areas on the map in Sinnoh. The Torn World screenshot also appears to show that the Torn World is topsy-turvy and distorted, utilizing 3D for the entire map. Additionally, one of the images on the full scan shows the Torn World residing above Mount Coronet, and possibly Spear Pillar
